Polaroid Connections and Memories
Photo and words by SFB.Ness
This photo is of my younger brother and I, taken in 1987 by my father.
Although I have only been into Polaroid for a little less than a year, I have many Polaroid photos of my family as my father was quite the Polaroid fan. He passed away back in 1992 when I was only eight years old, so I never really knew too much about him except for the stories my mom began to tell me as I became older.
Last year I began going through old boxes and photo albums in which I ran across most of the photos he had taken along with his own Polaroid. Through the moments of laughter and reminiscing while viewing his photos, my interest peaked and I decided to pick up his camera and take my own photos. Since then, I have purchased a few different Polaroid models and have enjoyed the medium so much, that at the beginning of the year I decided to start a year long project using Polaroid film. For me, this was my own way of connecting with my father by picking up a hobby that he dearly loved while he was still alive.
In short, I would be most sad to see this format go as it is something which has not only created ever lasting memories in my family, but hundreds of thousands more. It is for this reason, along with every other reason each fan has to offer as to why Polaroid film should be saved.
